From Rome, the team had an hours train ride into the picturesque area of Viterbo, alighting at Civitta Castellana - Bologna, a very small rural town. After finding the venue, the "Weigh in's" went well and the team were inscribed to the next days competition. The hosts laid on a magnificent four-course banquet complete with wine for all the competitors and officials; a convivial evening was spent chatting with teams and officials from; France, Belgium, Italy, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Germany, Russia, Switzerland & Serbia.

Preliminary bouts began at 10am and continued until midday when there was a short break for lunch. The preliminary bouts continued throughout the afternoon. With four fighting area's in constant use the action was non-stop.

The results so far:
Dirk Esser - 2 fights, two losses but much experience gained.
Tom Jenkins - 3 fights, two losses, one draw.
Antony Crossman - 3 fights, one win, two losses.
Laura Gilbert - 4 fights, three losses and one bout stopped but much experience gained.
Lorna Weaver - 3 fights, two wins one loss and a place in the final.
Rachel Shore - 3 fights, two wins one loss and a place in the final.

GBSF had two fighter's in the finals, both female:

Lorner Weaver, presently living and training in Paris and a member of Clichy club, trained by Mon. Mezzache. Lorna's opponent for this bout, Erica Huille, was her close friend and sparring partner and also from Clichy club. The two girls put on a beautiful display of Savate at its highest level with Erica clinching a split decision victory.

Rachel Shore, from Spectrum Club, Guildford, trained by Mr Martin Ross.
Rachel showed no fear of her highly experienced and more mature French opponent, Nathalie Mercoirol. Towards the end of round one Rachel lost a contact lens and had to fight the next two rounds with only one lens in, this must have some affect on her distancing but Rachel fought on regardless. Although Rachel narrowly missed the title she is now Vice - Champion of Europe and at the young age of 18 years has a great future ahead of her in the sport.
