Cambridge vs Guildford
- 'The Return'
In March 2001, Cambridge challenged
Guildford to an interclub assaut competition. After several close
fights, Cambridge won overall.
The last week of November 2002 saw the long-awaited return.
On Saturday, 23rd November, Martin
Ross, the senior Spectrum Club Instructor and National Director
of Technique for the GBSF arrived with a squad keen to show their
fitness and form. Ross led a thorough and informative 'Judges
and Referees Course' attended by 15 candidates from Cambridge
Academy and Guildford Spectrum clubs, along with previously qualified
judges Richard Muggeridge, Ollie Batts, Julie Gabriel and Loic
Grebonual.
"Weigh in's" for fighters where held on sunday morning,
with the first bout starting at 11am. It was a close and well-fought
bout between Loic and Enzo, and set the trend for the day. The
majority of fights ended with split decisions, and similar point
scores. The standard was generally higher than in the first interclub
competition, and the day passed without the need for a single
warning from the referees. A total of 14 interclub and 2 additional
bouts were held. The final result this time was 9 wins to Guildford,
5 to Cambridge. Looks like we'll need a decider in the new year!
